Andy & Rob Presents!: "A Brave New World" Surprise 4/20 Release!

Yes I know this devlog is a day late. I dropped the book at like 11:59 last night just to say I did it on 4/20. Here's how this all worked out:

- This is the final release. I'll make updates if I find glaring typos or whatever but basically just assume this is the final result and that I'm moving forward with the next book, which you should see a new entry for in the next few days.

- Currently, I've distributed in two formats: Online play and PC/Linux. If you've been following along, this is the way it's always been. If you're new, there's a couple things to consider:

  1. Play with the sound up. This is important, without the sound it's basically just a neat comic book you can control, which is cool, but you're cheating yourself the experience. Eventually these will cost money, so get your money's worth.
  2. Don't Play It On A Goddamn Phone, Please. Not every game is meant to be played that way, and this is one of those games. It's extremely text heavy, and besides, I've included A LOT of effects and tricks that don't work well in that format. I will one day port it to Android and iOS properly, but that takes a lot of time and money. In the meantime, playing it in it's browser distribution on itch's website on your phone probably legally counts as torture. That being said:
  3. If you must play it mobile, use a tablet. It's still not great but it's much better. You'll still miss out on some elements tho, even if you maybe don't want to tear out your hair. Failing that, if you find yourself playing it on the phone, as a last resort download itch's app and do it that way. This only works for Android as Itch doesn't have an iOS app. As I said, these are all temporary issues I'm dealing with one step at a time, but an honest to god iOS and Android port is a ways off. Download it or play it online on your laptop/desktop in the meantime, please. THAT being said...
  4. Download it if you can. It's about 99% complete in browser play, it's totally fine, but there's a technology issue that prevents video from playing on the web from the game engine we use, so you won't get to see the intro if you play online. That's kind of a bummer since it's pretty fucking dope and cost me a lot of money to put together, but that's your call. I'm working on a fix, but the fact is that the engine I use has to be fixed to allow for it, and I'm not nearly qualified to mess with the tool itself.
  5. Saving is a bit dodgy if you're playing online. Just kinda the nature of the beast. You'll need to have a free itch.io account made up to save the game or there's no where to put the file. You can play it without an account, but you won't be able to save. That's not necessarily the end of the world, it's only 1.45 hours, but just wanted to give everyone a heads up. Saving with the downloaded game is, of course, pristine as fuck.

- I'm testing the mac OS distribution as we speak, I expect to have that out ASAP.

- I don't know for sure that the distro works for Linux, but it should architecturally. I'm testing that, to.

- Playtime clocks in at about 1.45 hours.
